Tears of Stone (Pendant) November 2012
This piece was inspired by a drip ring my teacher wore. I thought it would be really cool to “build” something with drips of hard wax instead of carving it, so I dripped wax over and around a glass pebble to make a pendant.
I was thinking of Darkness (a fantasy story I wrote) when I made it, but it wasn't until after I finished that I realized that it really represents the Old Woman in the story. She was a fairly timid girl from the beginning, so when her world practically exploded when she was 11 she ran away into the woods and cried herself a veil of tears which metaphorically hardened into a cage around her. In the story she must learn to break away from the past and fight for a better future.

Horsing Around (Ring) November 2012
For my first cast piece I carved a ring to look like a rope with two horse shoes and two H’s on it for my friend Heather. It turned out a little chunkier then I wanted it to because I didn’t shave enough wax off the out side before carving the design.
Leaf (Charm) November 2012
Tiger Lily (Ring) November 2012
The inspiration for this piece came from a pinky ring my mom gave me out of her jewelry box when I was 9 or 10. It had a daisy that was raised in the center with the petals touching down at the edges to form a little dome cage. At the time it fit perfectly on my ring finger. I wore it all the time for awhile, but I lost it soon after my finger got too big. I knew I couldn't make something that delicate with the tools available,
so instead I cut six thicker petals and curled them over to touch the center. The copper color and curled petals are also reminiscent of the tiger lilies that grow across the street from our house. I added a bead to the middle just because there was room, but I can easily remove it or exchange it for a different color.

Temporarily Limited (Ring) October 2012
Everything is limited, including those things that claim to offer freedom. This ring is a visual representation of my feelings about out limited universe. People say you can be whatever you want to be, but just because they won’t stop you doesn’t mean that your ideals are physically possible. The way I see it you can either change your shape or your size. We live in a square world, so if you wanna be a circle you’ll have to adjust your size to fit within our square boundaries. Our society continues to expand and adjust to allow for personal variation, but the pursuit of happiness on earth can only ever get you to 90% (which is still an A). The outside of my ring is squiggly to symbolize the shapelessness of heaven, where you can get to A+ and beyond. I look forward to the day when I can be truly unlimited.
Confetti (Necklace) March 2010
I actually found instructions for a crochet wire necklace like this in a beading magazine. At the time I was looking for bigger flashier necklaces then the simple chokers and charm necklaces I use to wear. Since I wanted this to be a super fun necklace I used all the most random interesting beads from my collection. I also wanted it to be very versatile so I made the chain extra long and connected two lobster claw clasps to hold any loop of the chain on either side. Now, any time I wear it, I can have a shorter necklace with more strands, or a longer one with less.
